Colombia is victim to deforestation and the resulting temperature increase.
Colombia is not an exception to the problem that climate change constitutes for our planet. According to the Intergovernmental Planel on Climate Change, the global average temperature will increase around 3 °C this century. The rise of temperature will cause changes in the rains, both in volume and seasons. All this will have significant consequences in the water, energy, food and health in the cities in Colombia, whose main impacts may be: damage to urban, road and industrial infrastructure; loss of beaches and coastal erosion; loss of ecological heritage; decrease of fishing; and other health impacts related to the increase of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes...
In addition to the growth of temperature, deforestation is another hard consequence of climate change in Colombia and, at the same time, also the cause, since the lack of trees contributes to the increase of the average temperature. This reflects an urgent need for enhancing the tree coverage, which works as a climate modifier; that is, it is essential for decreasing the greenhouse effect which suffer cities in Colombia.
The project “Food Forest”: A multidimensional solution
The solution to this two subproblems of the climate change is reforestation. Reforesting not only solves the arboreal shortage but it also contributes to the reduction of the average temperature of the city and to the compensation of CO2 emissions.
Food Forest presents a multidimensional solution to the problems caused by the impacts of climate change in the cities of Colombia: it afforests while boosting the sustainable and equitable development of the cities, pursuing therefore, both environmental and social objectives.
